Danida Lot Civ Project-48 Month project – 2018-2021

Somaliland DANIDA LOT CIV Project- is an Integrated project Funded by Danida in partnership with save the children- Somaliland and implementing by the SONYO umbrella. It is aim is to support local civil society partners including associations to work as a unified approach to become a vibrant strong CSO that contribute, Advocate and reduce the physical, institutional and social violence against children and youth. To achieve the main objective is to civil society partners in Somaliland including youth associations; contribute to reducing physical institutional and social violence against children and youth Outcomes .

1.Capacity of CSO partners and youth associations strengthened in order for them to advocate and implement programs to reduce violence against Children and youth.
2.Existing draft Laws and policies (FGM/C, Child Act, Youth Policy) approved and implemented in order to reduce violence against children and youth.
3.Children and youth resilience enhanced to protect themselves from abuse and violence.
4.Community based child protection structures and mechanisms functioning and engaged to reduce violence against children and youth.
5.Youth empowerment enhanced through strengthening livelihood opportunities and improved engagement in decision making
6.Behavioral change on social and gender norms and practices related to violence realized.
UNDEF Project – 24 Month Project – 2018-2021

Enhancing Youth Participation and the Rule of Law in Somaliland’ supported by the United Nations Democracy Fund-UNDEF and implement by SONYO UMBRELLA that seeks to address the weak/lack of capacities of youth CSOs in rule of law, social accountability and limited participation in public resources management which has serious negative ramifications regarding public service delivery to the youth population. This project targets 6 main regions of Somaliland in close collaboration with youth CSOs, and government bodies/department.

Increased capacity of youth CSOs on rule of law and social accountability methods.
Enhanced youth participation in social accountability for greater accountability by public servants, and Better policy frameworks for social accountability and rule of law in Somaliland on youth development.
The Next Economy – 6 Month - 2021

Next Economy- “Next Economy project phase II” is project funded by SOS Children’s Village Iceland and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland, SOS S land and implementing by SONYO UMBRELLA as Training Centre provider. This projects seeks to empower youth from universities or technical institutes who have challenges to connect to the labor market or lack opportunities to start their own business. The training objects

-To equip youth (those seeking employment seekers and entrepreneurs) with interpersonal, conflict resolution, goal setting, and understanding of entrepreneurship and employment and professional skills that are essential for their career development.
The Next Economy – 6 Month - 2021

TALO WADAAG PROJECT- is 28 month project funded by EU implemented by SONYO, NAGAAD with technical support from Oxfam. The overall objective of the project was to increase the voice, participation and representation of women and youth in decision-making chains for a peaceful and prosperous Somaliland. To contribute to this goal, the project had three specific objectives:

1.To increase engagement of women and youth in formal institutional and community elder decision making chains.
2.To increase the use of women and youth’s economic power by targeting those women and youth who already have some sort of income and economic power and ensure that they are well equipped to use this power for influencing decision making, either through institutional or traditional decision making chains
3.To increase the inclusion of youth and women taking part in conflict and peace transformation processes.
4. The voice of Youth Project- 36Month Project- 2016-2019

 Voice of youth Project is financed by Operational Days’ Work partnership with SOS DK and SOS Somaliland and implemented locally by SONYO umbrella - Somaliland National Youth Organization. Its objective was to  Objective 1: Democratic governance structures that represent students and parents are established in 10 secondary schools covering three regions with one central organization.

1.To increase engagement of women and youth in formal institutional and community elder decision making chains.
2.To increase the use of women and youth’s economic power by targeting those women and youth who already have some sort of income and economic power and ensure that they are well equipped to use this power for influencing decision making, either through institutional or traditional decision making chains
3.To increase the inclusion of youth and women taking part in conflict and peace transformation processes.
